Child grant is a financial assistance program for children who are below the age of 18. It can be applied to any child in South Africa who is not over 18 years old. The child grant is an annual payment made to parents with children below the age of 18, per child. It was introduced in January 2004.
The current amount is R2 635 for the first child and R1 527 for each subsequent child up to a maximum of 10 children. However, it can go up to R3 648 if they meet certain conditions.

How to apply for a child grant?
To be eligible, your child must be 18 years old or younger, born after 31 December 1993, reside in South Africa and not have any other means of support. If you are applying as a child, once you are accepted, you will be placed with a foster family in an informal settlement and receive a monthly allowance of R2 000.
