Yum owns more than 68 KFC restaurants in SA.

The parent company of KFC, Yum Brands, announced the acquisition of 68 franchise units from franchisee Kumnandi Food Company as part of its ambitions to increase investment in South Africa and throughout the continent.

KFC presently operates 190 stores across the continent, including more than 660 in South Africa. This network will include more than 1000 members, with over 700 of them in South Africa.

The 68 KFC locations in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, and Kimberley were acquired in November, according to KFC managing director Keith Warren, marking a key brand milestone for the company.

AFGRI Chicken

AFGRI Poultry, the broiler production and processing division of the well-known, publicly traded South African agricultural services and foods firm AFGRI Limited, has been named as a supplier to Yum’s KFC, the most well-known chain of chicken restaurants in the world.

You will need to invest more than R3 million to open a franchised chicken fast food restaurant in South Africa. The least expensive choice is Chicken Licken, whereas a Nando’s restaurant costs at least R7 million. Currently, KFC is not accepting any new franchisees.
