What is called old age grant?

The old age grant is a monthly payment made to citizens, permanent residents, and refugees aged 60 and over who have no other source of income.

This grant is meant to help our older residents cope financially during their old age.

Who qualifies for old age grant in South Africa?

You qualify for an older person’s grant if you:

1. Must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.

2. Must be resident in South Africa.

3. Are 60 years or older.

4. Not be in receipt of another social grant for him or herself.

5. Must not earn more than R86 280 if you are single or R172 560 if married.

6. Must have assets worth more than 1 227 600 if you are single or R2 455 200 if you are married.

7. Must not be maintained or cared for in a State Institution.

How much will you get from the SASSA old age grant?

You will be paid a maximum of R1990 every month. R2010 will be issued if you are over the age of 75.

How will you be paid of the old age grant in South Africa?

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will pay you the grant in one of the following ways:

1. Cash at a specific pay point on a particular day

2. Electronic deposit into your bank or Postbank account
