Why are there White People in South Africa?

South Africa is a country that has been dominated by white people for centuries. To understand why there are still whites in South Africa, one needs to know about the History of South Africa and how it became a country.

South African history starts in 1652 when the Dutch East India Company established a settlement in Cape Town. The Dutch East India Company was looking for trade routes to Asia and found themselves on the southern tip of Africa. The Dutch East India Company had no intention of staying but they wanted to keep their presence secret, so they hired mostly white people to work for them.

The Dutch East India Company was eventually conquered by the British and became the British Cape Colony in 1806.

In 1910, Britain annexed two Boer republics – the Transvaal Republic and Orange Free State Republic – and this is when South Africa becomes a country on its own right with four provinces: Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Southern Cape. Apartheid was introduced in 1948, at the beginning of the reconstruction period.

In 1948, the National Party won the South African general election. This party had a strong belief in white supremacy and wanted to create a society that was exclusively for whites. They introduced apartheid laws which were designed to make sure that blacks and whites were treated differently.

A lot of people believe that white people introduced apartheid in South Africa. But it is not true because this system of separation was already in place before 1948. It started with the Natives Land Act of 1913, which made it illegal for blacks to buy land outside their designated reserves or “homelands”.
