South African public schools were forced to close due to the global pandemic. The decision to close schools was made a week after teachers’ unions urged officials to do so due to an increase in coronavirus cases. The schools were closed for a period of four weeks in order to slow the spread of the virus.With more than 400,000 infections, South Africa has the fifth-highest COVID-19 infection rate in the world.
Family visits to all prisons and jails across the nation have been put on hold. Schools will be closed starting on Wednesday and continuing through the weekend following Easter. According to authorities, 61 people nationwide have tested positive for coronavirus, with more cases likely to emerge.
