Overview of Athlone Campus, College of Cape Town
Location and History: Athlone Campus, part of the College of Cape Town, is strategically located near the site of the iconic Athlone cooling towers, known as ‘the two ladies of Athlone,’ before their demolition in 2010. Originally established as Athlone Technical College to serve the Cape Flats, it became part of the College of Cape Town following a merger in 2002 with three other technical colleges.
Specializations and Accreditations:
- The campus is renowned for its Automotive and Skills workshops, boasting four fully-equipped facilities.
- It holds accreditations for Automotive Motor Mechanics Training and Trade Testing.
- In 2018, Athlone Campus was designated as a Centre of Specialization (CoS) for Automotive Motor Mechanics, making it one of only two colleges in the country piloting this prestigious program.
- The campus maintains robust partnerships with leading automotive repair garages in the Cape Metro, including associations with RMI™, Miwa™, and Haynes Pro™ vehicle data.

- Athlone Campus specializes primarily in Mechanical Engineering with a particular focus on Motor Mechanics.

- NC(V) Automotive Motor Mechanics (Levels 2 – 4)
- Mechanical Engineering N1 – N3, including specializations in Fitting & Machining and Motor Mechanics
- Building & Civil Engineering N1 – N3
