How to Use eFiling to Register for VAT
To register for VAT on eFiling, simply follow the simple procedures below:
Step 1
Create or access your eFiling profile
Step 2 Go to the SARS Registered Details functionality:
Select Home from the Individual portfolio to access the SARS Registered Details functionality on the left menu.
The SARS Registered Details functionality is located under the Organisations menu option on the Tax Practitioner and Organizations eFiling portfolio.
Step 3 From the left menu, choose Maintain SARS Registered Details.
Step 4
The screen Maintain SARS Registered Details will appear. Select I Agree to certify that you are authorized to execute maintenance operations on the vendor’s registered information.
Step 5 On the left menu, select VAT under My tax goods > Revenue.
Step 6: Choose Add a new product registration to register a new or extra VAT branch.
Step 7
Fill out the following forms in the VAT container:
If not pre-populated, registered information
Trading Where applicable, as a name
Date of Liability
Choose a Business Activity Code.
The VAT 403 Vendors and Employers Trade Classification Guide contains the codes.
If appropriate, choose Farming Activity Code.
Note: If you choose a different business activity code after receiving the Diesel concession containers, you will receive the following error: ‘ Mark this box if you get money from farming in addition to your main business: If you choose this indicator, the “Farming Activity Code” field becomes required.
Choose the appropriate registration option.
The cost of taxable supplies
Accounting foundation
Tax season
If not pre-populated, the following fields must be filled out:
Contact information
Physical Location
Postal Address Banking Information
What is the South African VAT registration procedure?
Submit the registration form to your nearest SARS office within 21 days after surpassing R1 million. VAT is imposed at a standard rate of 15% on products and services supplied by registered vendors. A limited number of goods and services are either subject to zero-rate VAT or are VAT-free.
Is it necessary for a small firm to file for VAT?
If your turnover is minimal, you might opt to register for VAT (‘voluntary registration’). If everything you sell is VAT-free, you do not need to register for VAT.
