ABOUT THE COMPANY – AGSA
The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) was established over 100 years ago, in 1911. AGSA is the supreme audit institution of South Africa, whose role it is to audit and report on the spending of South African taxpayers’ money by the South African government.
AGSA’s partners include the following organisations: Association of Chartered Accountants (ACCA); South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA); South African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA); Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institution (INTOSAI).
The AGSA is loyal to supporting South Africa’s transformation aspirations, which strives to promote the B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) codes of good practice.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED, COVERAGE VALUE & SERVICE CONTRACT
AGSA will be awarding bursaries to students currently studying or intending on studying towards a Chartered Accountancy qualification, including the following qualifications:
- BCom Accounting CA stream
- Bachelor of Accounting CA stream
- BCompt
The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition, prescribed textbooks, meals and accommodation at university.
Bursary recipients will be required to partake in training with AGSA once they have graduated or serve articles.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Matric students (applying for 1st year):
- South African citizen
- Currently in Matric
- Achieve a minimum result of 60% for English
- Achieve a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics (NOT Mathematics Literacy)
- Must pass Matric with an exemption and university entrance
- Be accepted to study at a SAICA-accredited University
- Intend on studying full-time towards a Chartered Accountancy qualification (as listed above)
1st year students (applying for 2nd year):
- South African citizen
- In your first year of full-time study towards a Chartered Accountancy qualification (as listed above)
- Studying at a SAICA-accredited University
- Achieve a minimum result of 60% for Financial Accounting
- Achieved a minimum result of 60% for English in Matric
- Achieved a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics (NOT Mathematics Literacy) in Matric
2nd year students (applying for 3rd year):
- South African citizen
- In your second year of full-time study towards a Chartered Accountancy qualification (as listed above)
- Studying at a SAICA-accredited University
- Achieve a minimum result of 60% for Financial Accounting
- Achieve a minimum result of 60% for Management Accounting
Final year students (applying for postgraduate studies):
- South African citizen
- In final second year of full-time study towards a Chartered Accountancy qualification (as listed above)
- Achieve a minimum result of 55% for all core modules
- Accepted into the CTA program
Students must ALSO meet the following requirements in order to apply:
- Be proficient in English
- Have strong communication skills
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- Have strong leadership potential
- Be determined, driven and committed to succeed
