What is the Matric Pass Mark in South Africa?

You should be aware that completing matric is harder than you might believe if you’re a student in South Africa. You must achieve a grade point average of at least 30% in each course you are enrolled in to be eligible to acquire the National Senior Certificate (NSC). If not, you will regrettably be unable to pass the matriculation exam.

The four matric pass levels are as follows:

Higher credential for the National Senior Certificate

Diploma

Undergraduate degree (commonly known as an exemption).

Senior Certificate of the Nation

The absolute minimum required to pass your matric year is this.

A minimum APS score of 3 in your mother tongue

Two more subjects with at least a 3 on the APS

A 2 in 4 other subjects on the APS

APS overall score of 14

What standards must be met in order to pass the certificate?

You must receive a 40% in your native language.

Must receive a minimum of 40% in two more subjects.

A minimum of 30% in three other topics is required.

Diploma

You need to get at least 40% in your native language.

Required to receive at least 40% in three additional High Credit subjects (Four, including your home language.).

You must score at least 30% on various topics.

Undergraduate degree

Level 7: 80 – 100% (Outstanding achievement) (Outstanding achievement)

Level 6: 70 – 79% (Meritorious achievement) (Meritorious achievement)

Level 5: 60 – 69% (Substantial achievement)

Level 4: 50 – 59% (Moderate achievement)

Level 3: 40 – 49% (Adequate achievement)

Level 2: 30 – 39% (Elementary achievement)

Level 1: 0 – 29% (Not achieved – Fail)
