South Africans looking for a plug-and-play uncapped home data package have various options, with some offering speeds of up to 25Mbps for less than R500 per month.
Rain’s 19-hours Unlimited off-peak plan, which delivers uncapped data between 23:00 and 18:00 for R250 per month, is the cheapest uncapped mobile data bundle available.
Axxess’ MTN Uncapped LTE packages range in price from R299 to R749 per month and offer speeds ranging from 10Mbps to 100Mbps.
The Internet service provider (ISP) is also conducting a promotion on the MTN Uncapped LTE Pro package, reducing the monthly cost from R949 to R779.
Rain’s 5G and LTE offerings may appeal to some South Africans because they are exempt from fair usage laws (FUPs).
Instead, depending on the plan chosen, Rain restricts speed and video streaming quality. It also reduces the speed of virtual private network connections.
Because the radio bandwidth given to each mobile operator can only convert into a fixed amount of data throughput, FUPs are used to prevent networks against overload.
