ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER – NETFLIX & TSI

ABOUT THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP – FIELDS COVERED
Netflix, in partnership with TSI, has established the Creative Equity Scholarship Fund (CESF) for the academic year. This scholarship aims to support African creatives within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region who are pursuing film and television-focused disciplines. The scholarship is open to students in their final year of undergraduate study or the first year of postgraduate study.
The CESF, with a commitment of US$1 million (approximately R15 million), will cover tuition fees, accommodation, study materials, and living expenses for the selected students. TSI will be responsible for administering the scholarship process.
MORE ABOUT THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION
The scholarship covers all study-related expenses based on students’ needs. This includes tuition fees, accommodation, study materials, and living expenses.
Applicants will undergo initial screening and vetting. Successful candidates will be reviewed by the Selection Committee, who will make the final decision.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP
To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Citizenship of one of the SADC countries: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, or Zimbabwe
- Completion of Matric (Grade 12)
- Studying or intending to study a Film or Television-related qualification
- Entering the final year of undergraduate study or the first year of postgraduate study in
- Completion of undergraduate studies between 2019 and 2021 if entering postgraduate studies in
- Minimum overall average of 60% for all completed studies to date
- Studying or intending to study at one of the approved institutions listed, including AFDA, University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, and others
- Demonstrated financial need
- Not receiving any other bursaries or financial aid
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP
Applications must be submitted online through the Netflix Scholarship Application for .
Applicants must include clear copies of the following supporting documents (compulsory for application):
- Certified copy of ID document
- Certified copy of Matric certificate
- Full academic record, including the most recent results, for current undergraduate students (on university letterhead)
- Official transcript of results, on university letterhead, for students who have completed an undergraduate degree
- Proof of acceptance and/or registration at one of the eligible tertiary institutions
- Additional documents to strengthen the application (optional)
- Essays addressing personal background, reasons for studying the selected program, and why the applicant should be selected for the Netflix scholarship (maximum 500 words each)
- All documents will be verified and vetted.
CLOSING DATE FOR THE NETFLIX SCHOLARSHIP
The closing date for applications is 4 February, at 23:59. Please ensure your application is submitted before the closing date to be considered.
