The Generation Google Scholarship covers a total value of 7,000 Euros (EUR) or approximately R121,000. This amount is intended to cover tuition fees, books, study supplies, and other equipment required for studies.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GENERATION GOOGLE SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria to be eligible for the Generation Google Scholarship:
- Must be female.
- Must be a resident of any African, European, or Middle Eastern country.
- Must be currently enrolled and pursuing graduate or undergraduate studies at a university.
- Must be enrolled or accepted to study full-time for a degree (Bachelors, Masters, or PhD) in the 2025-2026 academic year.
- Must be enrolled or accepted at a recognized and accredited university in Africa, Europe, or the Middle East for the 2025-2026 academic year.
- Must be studying towards a qualification in Video Game Programming, Game Engineering, Game Design and Development, or a closely related field in Gaming.
- Must have a strong academic record.
- Must demonstrate leadership capabilities.
- Must have a passion for increasing women’s involvement in gaming.
- Must have an interest in gaming.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE GENERATION GOOGLE SCHOLARSHIP
To apply for the Generation Google Scholarship, follow these steps:
- Submit your application online using the Generation Google Scholarship Application form.
- Along with your application, you must provide the following supporting documentation. Ensure that all documents are submitted as they are compulsory. Missing documents may result in disqualification.
- Brief background information, including contact details and details about your current studies and university.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Academic transcripts for your current studies and any completed studies (on official institution letterhead).
- One letter of reference from your instructor, professor, supervisor, or adviser.
- Responses to five brief essay questions (maximum of 300 words each).
Essay Questions (each should be a maximum of 300 words):
- How did you become interested in gaming, and what are your goals or aspirations during or after completing a degree in this field? Include how your experiences have influenced your goals.
- Describe the most significant technical project or research you have worked on. Explain your approach to key technical challenges and the skills/knowledge you gained from the experience. If the project was team-based, clarify your specific role and contributions.
- Provide an example of how you have demonstrated leadership. Describe your influence, the goal you aimed to achieve, and the impact you had. Leadership can be demonstrated in various contexts, including within your technical community, university, or a broader community.
- Identify a significant challenge that you believe women in the gaming industry face and how you hope to contribute to solutions for this challenge. Remember that impact can manifest in various ways and at different scales.
- Explain how receiving this scholarship would impact your education if you were selected. Detail any circumstances affecting your need for a scholarship and the educational goals that this scholarship would help you achieve.
NOTES ABOUT THE GENERATION GOOGLE SCHOLARSHIP
- Successful candidates will be selected based on the strength of their essays and application materials.
- Enrollment will be verified after the scholarship winners are selected.
- The scholarship award will be withheld if the student no longer meets the eligibility requirements.
- Recipients may defer their award for up to one year from the originally planned payment date on a case-by-case basis, as determined by Google.
- Google employees are not eligible to apply.
- Candidates who are residents of embargoed countries, ordinarily reside in embargoed countries, or are prohibited by export controls and sanctions may not apply.
