About North West University NWU Business School

About North West University Potchefstroom Business School

Overview

At the School of Business & Governance, we strive to change the way our students think about business. We want our students to become manager-leaders in their own right. All our programmes strive to promote practical business solutions in the workplace and we encourage our students to “practise what we preach”. With sites of delivery in Potchefstroom, Mafikeng and the Vaal Triangle, as part of the North-West University, the School of Business & Governance aims to make a difference in the local economy and community through the implementation of skills and other social projects.

Director’s Message

On the forefront

The NWU now has a united Business School. The former NWU Potchefstroom Business School (PBS) and the Post-graduate School of Business and Governance (PGSBG) on the Mafikeng Campus now function as a unit that is known as the NWU School of Business and Governance.

The School will have three sites of delivery, i.e. in Mafikeng, Potchefstroom as well as in the Vaal Triangle. There will be academic representation as well as academic support at all three sites.

The NWU Business School’s re-accreditation visit by AMBA has to take place in October 2016. This accreditation visit will include all three sites of delivery. One of the main projects during the first semester will be to make sure that all three sites have lecturing facilities becoming of an AMBA-accredited Business School.

The new level 9 MBA was introduced on 1 January this year. Admission requirements for this programme are, among others, an honours degree or equivalent, or a four-year professional degree plus relevant work experience. We are very excited about the good intake of students for the MBA at all three sites, as well as on the Post-graduate Diploma in Management. From the large quantity of applications we were able to enrol students of the highest quality.

The Post-graduate Diploma in Management, previously only offered on a part-time basis, now has a part-time peer that started in 2016. Classes take place in Afrikaans in Potchefstroom on Saturday mornings, and on Thursdays in English at Quest in Vanderbijlpark.

We were again able to financially support six MBA students, thanks to Aspen Pharmacare’s open hand as donator of these bursaries. The chosen candidates had to adhere to strict criteria, academic as well as financial.

The Executive Education programme has on a continuous basis been well supported and is still growing from strength to strength.

We wish all the best for 2016 to our alumni, colleagues, business partners and other stakeholders.

Kind regards
Tommy
