Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) Overview
The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) was established to address the underrepresentation of black professionals in the investment finance and securities sector. Founded in 1995, ABSIP is a prominent force driving transformation in the financial sector and is affiliated with the Black Business Council (BBC). The organization’s membership encompasses professionals at varying levels of experience in a diverse range of financial sub-sectors.
ABSIP Bursary Programme 2025-2026
ABSIP, in partnership with STANLIB, is offering the ABSIP Bursary Programme for historically disadvantaged students pursuing careers in Investment Management. The bursary provides comprehensive financial support, including stipends, tuition fees, accommodation, book allowances, laptops, and more.
Preference will be given to students pursuing studies such as:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc)
- Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
- Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc)
With focus on subjects including:
- Economics
- Business Finance
- Investment Management
- Financial Analysis
- Mathematics and Statistics
Recipients of the bursary may also have opportunities for vacation work from the third year in collaboration with STANLIB’s human capital and learning and development initiatives. Bursaries are renewable each year based on satisfactory academic performance.
Eligibility Criteria for the ABSIP Bursary
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the ABSIP Bursary Programme:
- South African citizenship.
- Black ethnicity as defined by the B-BBEE Act.
- Full-time study toward a career-related qualification in Investment Management.
- Admission and enrollment at one of the specified universities.
- Strong academic record with a minimum average of 75% in core academic subjects.
- Intention to pursue a career in the investment field.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- No permanent work experience, excluding vacation work.
- Not an employee or relative of an employee of STANLIB.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and participation in extracurricular activities.
- Membership in ABSIP (free student membership can be obtained).

Required Documents
Submit clear copies of the following documents along with your online application:
- Certified identification documents.
- Transcripts or academic record on institution’s letterhead.
- Statement of fees or a quote from your university on institution’s letterhead.
- A motivation letter (1 page) explaining your interest in studying Investment Management.
Closing Date of the ABSIP Bursary
The application deadline is 06 February 2025-2026. Late submissions will not be considered.
