JOE Program (Mozambique)

The EducationUSA Janelas de Oportunidades Educacionais (“Windows of Educational Opportunity”—JOE) program was launched in 2011 at the U.S. Embassy in Maputo on the premise that there are many highly-talented Mozambican youth who have never dreamed of pursuing higher education at colleges and universities abroad simply because of their financial circumstances. The aim of the program is to empower youth to look beyond financial barriers and to dream, assisting them to negotiate the complicated and confusing admission and financial aid process at selective institutions in the United States and creating the strength of a cohort educational advising unit for mutual support throughout and beyond the admission process.

St Jude’s provides a free, high-quality education to children who, due to poverty and social pressures, would otherwise be unlikely to complete their schooling. Drawn from families who often live on less than $1.25 per day, the pupils of St Jude’s are shining examples of what students can achieve when they are given the opportunity to receive a quality education.
