About BankSETA / UKZN Outstanding Student Debt Fund:
The Banking Sector Education and Training Authority (BankSETA) assists in the transformation and skills development of the banking/microfinance sector. Established through the Skills Development Act, BankSETA focuses on youth/adult education, SMEs, and continuous professional development and research to alleviate unemployment and promote employment equity and broad-based black economic empowerment.
The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has a School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance under the College of Law and Management Studies. The school offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across its Westville and Pietermaritzburg campuses.
The BankSETA / UKZN Outstanding Student Debt Fund:
BankSETA invites University of KwaZulu-Natal students with outstanding student debt to apply for funding for the academic year. The historical debt fund is applicable to students in the School of Accounting Finance & Economics pursuing or intending to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in various fields, including Accounting, Business Science, Financial Planning, Finance Banking and Investment Management, and more.
Coverage Value and Selection:
Selection for the fund is based on academic merit and/or financial need, with the value/coverage of the bursary to be discussed with successful candidates. There are no contractual or work obligations tied to this funding.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the BankSETA / UKZN Outstanding Student Debt Fund, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Age under 35 (not turning 35 in current academic year)
- Studying or intending to study one of the specified undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications in
- Registered or planning to register at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in current academic year.
- Minimum overall average of 60% for first and second-semester results previous academic year
- Outstanding student debt
- Previous BankSETA bursary recipients pursuing any of the specified qualifications may also apply
How to Apply:
Applications must be submitted online through the BankSETA / UKZN Outstanding Student Debt Fund Application form. Along with the application, clear copies of supporting documents must be provided, including an ID document, Matric certificate, full academic record (on UKZN letterhead), and UKZN fee statement (on UKZN letterhead).
Closing Date:
The closing date for applications is 20 January. It is important to submit the application before this date.
