GET Phase: Grades 8 and 9

In the General Education and Training (GET) Phase, students continue with subjects initiated in Grade 7. Bellville Technical High School offers a comprehensive range of subjects typically found in secondary schools. Crucial subject selection for the Further Education and Training (FET) phase occurs in Grade 9, where students choose their technical pathway for Grades 10-12. Our Life Orientation teachers provide career guidance, including a comprehensive aptitude test in March to assist in this important decision.

Subjects Overview:

Languages: Mastery of the Home Language and a First Additional Language (Afrikaans or English) is mandatory. Remedial support is available for learners for whom Afrikaans is a third language.

Social Sciences: This integrates History and Geography, taught and assessed throughout the year, with separate but complementary curriculums.

Natural Sciences: Focused on nurturing curiosity about nature and fostering investigative skills.

Life Orientation: Central to the holistic development of learners, it addresses personal, social, intellectual, emotional, and physical growth.

Mathematics: Encourages logical and critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Post Grade 9, students select their technical direction, including one technical subject and either Mathematics with Physical Science or Technical Mathematics with Technical Science. Engineering Graphics and Design is mandatory, and high-achieving students have the option to choose between Information Technology and Life Sciences.

Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD): Provides foundational knowledge in Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Technology.
