Anyone who uses or owns a television set must have a valid, fully paid-up licence.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF TELEVISION LICENCES?
1] A domestic licence, formerly known as a private licence, for households and/or individuals that allows the licensed set(s) to be used only at the user’s registered residential premises;
2] A domestic concessionary licence; 3] A business licence, for entities (including government departments) using TV sets in their business/commercial activities or on business premises;
4] A dealer license for businesses that sell television sets;
5] A lessor licence, for businesses renting out television sets; and 6] A mobile licence, for a TV set in any private vehicle, caravan, mobile home, vessel, or aircraft.
WHO REQUIRES A TELEVISION LICENSE?
According to the Broadcasting Act, No 4 of 1999, as amended, any person or entity that owns and/or uses a television set. A licence is still required whether or not a television set is in one’s possession.
WHEN IS A TELEVISION LICENCE PAYABLE, AND HOW LONG IS IT VALID?
A television licence must be paid in advance, before the start of the licence holder’s licence year. A licence is valid for one year and is clearly marked on the licence.
