About The Citrus Academy:
The Citrus Academy is a non-profit company operating under the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGASA). It plays a crucial role in the South African agricultural sector, particularly in citrus fruit growing, which is predominantly located in the Western Cape. The Academy aims to create opportunities for human resource development in the citrus industry and address industry-specific issues such as skills shortages, employment equity, and black economic empowerment (BEE).
Citrus Academy Bursary Fund:
The Citrus Academy Bursary Fund provides bursaries to tertiary students pursuing studies related to the citrus industry. These bursaries cover various expenses, including:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Books and stationery
- Meals
- Research costs (for postgraduate students)
- Other study-related expenses
The bursary is available for students pursuing studies in fields such as agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, horticulture, microbiology, and more, all of which are relevant to the citrus industry.
Requirements and Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Citrus Academy Bursary Fund, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a citizen of South Africa, Zimbabwe, or Swaziland.
- Education: Must have completed Matric (Grade 12).
- Field of Study: Must be currently studying one of the specified fields at a recognized tertiary institute in South Africa.
- Academic Level: Must be entering their 2nd year of study or above.
- Enrollment Status: Must be studying part-time or full-time.
- Academic Record: Must have a strong academic record.
- Preference: Preference is given to female students, those who have been previously disadvantaged, and disabled students.
- Financial Need: Must demonstrate proven financial need.
- Citrus Industry Background: Should have a relevant background or interest in the citrus industry.
