City of Cape Town Bursaries 2026-2027

The City of Cape Town offers financial support annually to help students cover costs associated with registration, examinations, and class fees. If you are interested in applying for a bursary, please follow the steps outlined below.

Important Considerations

  • Residency: Only residents of South Africa living within the Cape Metropolitan Area are eligible.
  • Financial Assistance: Applicants must not be receiving any other form of financial aid (e.g., NSFAS).
  • Documentation: Ensure you have the following documents ready:
    • A certified copy of your ID (not older than three months)
    • For Grade 12 students, a copy of your Grade 12 / mid-year results (minimum 65% average)
    • For full-time tertiary students, academic transcripts from your first, second, and/or third year
    • Proof of financial status (affidavit of parent or guardian’s payslips or social grant slips)
    • Registration or provisional acceptance letter from an approved tertiary institution
    • Recommendations from teachers, mentors, and peers
    • Awards and certificates
    • Contact details of two references
    • Proof of residence
    • Any work done in your intended field of study

Application Process

Step 1: Obtain an Application Form

  • Download: The application form can be downloaded from the City’s website.
  • Collect: Alternatively, collect a form from any of the following City facilities:
    • Bellville Walk-in Centre
    • Brackenfell Walk-in Centre
    • Cape Town HR Employment Counter, Civic Centre
    • Parow Walk-in Centre
    • Plumstead Walk-in Centre

Step 2: Complete and Submit the Application Form

  • Fill out the Form: Ensure all sections are completed accurately.
  • Attach Supporting Documents: Include all required documents listed above.

Applications for City bursaries closes on 15 September. Late applications will not be considered.
