Compensation Fund Bursary 2025-2026

The Compensation Fund is a part of the Department of Labor in South Africa, responsible for providing financial assistance to workers who have been injured, disabled, or suffered diseases while performing their work duties. This fund also covers workers who have died while on the job. It caters to permanent workers, casual workers, and trainees who have suffered severe injuries or illnesses during their employment.

Compensation Fund Bursary 2025-2026

The Compensation Fund is offering the Compensation Fund Bursary 2025-2026 to unemployed individuals who have acquired permanent disabilities due to work-related ailments or injuries. The bursary is available for two target groups:

Group 1: Unemployed individuals or pensioners of working age who have permanent disabilities resulting from work-related ailments or injuries.

Group 2: Dependents (17-25 years of age) of individuals covered by COID (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases).

Preference will be given to unemployed workers with permanent disabilities or dependents of fatally injured individuals who demonstrate strong academic performance and potential. The bursary covers accommodation, prescribed learning materials, monthly stipends, and tuition fees. Bursaries are renewable annually based on fund availability and academic merit.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the Compensation Fund Bursary 2025-2026:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Working age for Group 1 applicants or 17-25 years of age for Group 2 applicants.
  • Permanent disablement due to work-related ailments or injuries (for Group 1) or being a dependent of COID (for Group 2).
  • Acceptance at an approved Higher Education Institution, Community Education and Training (CET) College, or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College.
  • Ability to improve and become self-employed.

To apply for the bursary, download and complete the application form. Submit the application through email at CFexternalbursaries@labour.gov.za or by hand-delivering it to the provided address.

Documents Required

Submit the following documents to be considered eligible for the bursary program:

  • Certified copies of ID documents.
  • Certified copy of unabridged birth certificate (for Group 2).
  • COID claim number/pension number.
  • Latest academic transcript if currently studying.
  • Acceptance proof at an approved institution.
  • Proof of residence.
  • Proof of disability.
  • Quotation of tuition fees and prescribed learning resources (preferably on the institute’s letterhead).
  • Pre-entry assessment for the apprenticeship program (if applicable).
  • Income proof of parents/guardians and their ID documents.

Closing Date

The application deadline for the Compensation Fund Bursary 2025-2026 is March 31. All applications must be submitted before the closing date.
