About the Department of Correctional Services (DCS):
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is a government department in South Africa, overseen by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services. Its responsibilities encompass providing administrative and financial support to the country’s court system and judiciary, as well as overseeing South Africa’s correctional services and offering legal advice and representation.
About the DCS Bursary Program:
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is offering bursaries for the 2024-2025 academic year. These bursaries are open to students pursuing studies in various fields, including Agricultural Science, Artisans/Engineering, Medicine and Surgery, Criminology, Education, Finance and Logistics, Food Services, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Monitoring and Evaluation, Nursing, Occupational Directed Education, Training and Development Practices, Occupational Health and Safety, Penology and Correctional Services, Primary Health Care, Project Management, Psychology, Risk and Disaster Management, Security Management, and Supply Chain Management.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible for the DCS Bursary:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have completed Matric or an NCV certificate at NQF level 4.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old and unemployed, or be an employee of the Department of Correctional Services, regardless of age.
- Be studying or intending to study one of the specified qualifications.
- Study or have been accepted to study at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Be in financial need.
- Not be receiving financial support from any other private or public institution.
- Candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply:
To apply for the DCS Bursary, follow these steps:
- Download and complete the DCS Bursary Application for 2024-2025 (available in PDF format).
- In the application form, indicate that you heard about the DCS bursary from “Uni24.co.za.”
- Along with the completed application form, submit clear copies of the following supporting documents:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate or NCV certificate (certified copy)
- Course curriculum or prospectus (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Full tertiary academic record (if currently studying, on the institution’s letterhead)
- Course fee outline (on the institution’s letterhead)

Closing Date:
The closing date for the DCS Bursary is 14 October. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted, so be sure to apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.
