Stellenbosch University SU Offline Application
In contrast to using the Stellenbosch University SU Online Application Portal, students can opt to apply via hardcopies of the Stellenbosch University SU Application Forms. These can be obtained online on the University’s website or by directly visiting the Admissions Office. The following are the costs of the application forms
- Undergraduate applications from South Africa and SADC region: R100
- Undergraduate applications from outside of the SADC region: R300
Stellenbosch University SU Admission Requirements
Undergraduate Diploma Study
The minimum requirement for admission to undergraduate diploma study is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) as certified by Umalusi with an achievement rating of 3 (Moderate Achievement, 40-49%) or better in 4 recognised NSC 20-credit subjects.

Bachelor’s Degree Study
What are the minimum academic requirements for a bachelor’s degree?
- 30% for a South African Language of Learning and Teaching (English or Afrikaans), and
- an achievement rating of 4 (50% – 59%) in four 20-credit subjects.
How do you calculate your National Senior Certificate average?
Highest score in Language of Learning and Teaching (Eng or Afr) + (5 x best results in 20-credit subjects excluding Life Orientation, Advanced Mathematics, Mathematics 3 and any other non NSC subjects). The total is then divided by 6.
How do we assess international qualifications?
- Final school results from International Curriculum (Cambridge International, International Baccalaureate, etc.), including School of Tomorrow.

Stellenbosch University SU Supported Documents
Below are some of the documents you need.
- You will need an email address to complete the application.
- South African applicants will need an ID number. Foreign applicants will need their passport number.
- Once you receive your student number from Stellenbosch University SU, you will need to pay the application fee.
- Make sure your documents are scanned according to the directives.

- Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
- Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)

Stellenbosch University SU National Benchmark Tests
The NBT is an assessment test used for first-year applicants to higher education institutions. The NBTs are designed to measure a writer’s ability to transfer understanding of academic literacy (language skills), quantitative literacy (numerical skills) and Mathematics to the demands of tertiary (higher education) coursework.
Only School of Tomorrow applicants and applicants to the Faculty of Law.
School of Tomorrow: School of Tomorrow applicants must write the NBT before the end of 2021 to ensure that your results are available in time for registration.

The Faculty of Law decided to extend the deadline to write the NBT’s until the 28th of August 2021. If you haven’t registered to do the NBT’s please do so before 1 August.
Should you be unable to write online, the NBT office also offer the option of a remote session. Remote sessions may be requested by email to nbtremote@SU.ac.za. There are service costs associated with this option. More information on remote sessions may be found on their website, www.nbt.ac.za
