Ethereum Targets November for Fusaka Upgrade as Glamsterdam Plans Advance
Fusaka Hard Fork Set to Boost Network Efficiency and Security
Ethereum core developers have slated November for the launch of the next major hard fork—Fusaka—in an ongoing effort to improve the blockchain’s scalability, efficiency, and overall security. This update follows April’s Pectra hard fork, which introduced key enhancements like account abstraction, increased validator staking limits, and more efficient layer-2 integrations.
The next Fusaka developer testnet is scheduled to go live this Wednesday, featuring 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). Among them is EIP-7825, which aims to make Ethereum more resistant to malicious attacks while enabling broader scaling across the network.

Testnets and Mainnet Rollout Plan
Fusaka’s public testnet phase is expected to begin in late September, followed by another in October, culminating in the mainnet launch in early November. If successful, this rollout would come six months after Pectra, marking an acceleration in Ethereum’s upgrade cycle.
Ethereum’s gas limit could also see a significant rise. Core developers have proposed increasing it to 150 million, aiming to ease network congestion and support larger-scale decentralized applications (DApps).
However, not all proposals made the cut. EIP-7907, which would have doubled the contract code size limit and introduced new gas metering rules, was removed to streamline testing. Likewise, the long-debated EVM Object Format upgrade is not included in Fusaka, per a statement by Ethereum developer Tim Beiko in April.
Concerns and Scheduling Pressure Ahead of Devconnect
Ethereum contributor Nixo flagged time concerns in an X post, warning that delivering Fusaka before Devconnect (Nov. 17–22, Buenos Aires) will require a tight timeline.
“If we want to ship by Devconnect, we need our timeline TIGHT. We’ll go over that in detail. Can we get client releases in the ~next month & a half?” — Nixo, Ethereum Protocol Support
Glamsterdam: The Next Phase in Ethereum’s Evolution
Meanwhile, attention is turning toward Glamsterdam, Ethereum’s next major upgrade following Fusaka. Its feature list will be finalized on August 1, during the upcoming AllCoreDevs Execution meeting.
One major proposal on the table is to reduce Ethereum’s block time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds—a move developer Barnabé Monnot argues would enhance user experience and improve DeFi DApp performance. This change, if approved, will be part of the Glamsterdam hard fork, scheduled for 2026.
At the same time, Ethereum validators are supporting a proposal to raise the gas limit to 45 million, which would lower transaction costs and increase throughput.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin confirmed in a recent X post:
“Almost exactly 50% of stake is voting to increase the L1 gas limit to 45m.”
