About The IMESA:
IMESA, or the Institute Of Municipal Engineering Of Southern Africa, was founded in 1961. It is an organization that represents the interests of over a thousand individual members and firms engaged in municipal engineering and the built environment sector. IMESA aims to promote skills development in the field of engineering and contribute to the betterment of communities.
Institute Of Municipal Engineering Of Southern Africa (IMESA) Bursary 2025-2026:
IMESA offers students the opportunity to apply for bursaries for the academic year 2025-2026. There are two types of bursaries available:
- Bursary Scheme A (For non-IMESA members): This is for students pursuing studies in the field of Civil Engineering or related disciplines.
- Bursary Scheme B (For dependents of IMESA members): This is for students who are related to IMESA members and are pursuing studies in the field of Civil Engineering.
Bursary Coverage:
The bursary covers the following expenses:
- Tuition fees, up to a maximum of R50,000.
- If tuition fees are less than R50,000, the remaining funds can be used for prescribed books.
- The selected candidates will be assigned a mentor.
- Funds will be paid directly to the educational institution within 30 days after the student submits their account statement to IMESA.
- Students must provide proof of enrollment and a medical certificate before receiving the first installment of the bursary.
Candidates will be informed of their selection by the end of the year 2025-2026, and there will be an evaluation before the bursaries are awarded.
Eligibility Criteria For The Bursary:
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
For non-IMESA members (Bursary Scheme A):
- South African citizenship.
- Completion of Matric.
- Pursuing a full-time degree in Civil Engineering or a related infrastructure field.
- Studying at a university accredited by ECSA in South Africa.
- Completion of the first year of the course.
- Starting the second year or later of the degree in 2025-2026.
- Demonstrated financial need.
For dependents of IMESA members (Bursary Scheme B):
- South African citizenship.
- Completion of Matric.
- Pursuing a full-time degree in Civil Engineering or a related infrastructure field.
- Studying at a university accredited by ECSA in South Africa.
- Completion of the first year of the course.
- Starting the second year or later of the degree in 2025-2026.
- Must be a child or a dependent member of an IMESA member.

- Complete the application form.
- Submit the application form and required documents via email to bursaries@imesa.org.za.
- Use “IMESA Bursary Application” in the subject line and specify Scheme A or B.
Documents Required:
All applicants must submit the following documents with the application form:
- Certified copies of ID documents.
- Mid-year exam results for 2025-2026.
- Proof of income of parents or guardians and an affidavit as proof of the student’s financial condition.
Closing Date Of The Bursary:
The application deadline for the IMESA Bursary is September 15. Late applications will not be accepted.
