What Is WhatsApp?

The American business Meta Platforms is the owner of the freeware, cross-platform, centralized instant messaging (IM) and voice-over-IP (VoIP) service known as WhatsApp Messenger, or just WhatsApp (formerly Facebook). Users can exchange photographs, documents, user locations, voice and video chats, text and voice messages, and other types of content. The client application for WhatsApp is available on PCs and works on mobile devices. To sign up for the service, you must have a mobile phone number. WhatsApp developed a separate business app called WhatsApp Business in January 2018 that can communicate with the main WhatsApp client.

Creation Of The Platform

The client application was developed by Mountain View, California-based WhatsApp Inc., which Facebook acquired in February 2014 for roughly US$19.3 billion. By 2015, it had become the most widely used messaging service in the world, and by February 2020, it had over 2 billion users. It had replaced other Internet communication methods by 2016 in places including Latin America, the Indian subcontinent, and significant portions of Europe and Africa.Former Yahoo! employees Brian Acton and Jan Koum invented WhatsApp. It wasn’t designed to be a texting app at first.Koum came up with the idea for an app to provide dynamic information about the people listed in your address book in January 2009 after purchasing an iPhone. He and Acton were eager to get into what they saw foresaw as a newly burgeoning multi-million dollar app industry created by the Apple App Store. Koum came up with statuses for each person, such as: “if you were on a call, your battery was low, or you were at the gym.” At the West San Jose house of Koum’s Russian friend Alex Fishman, they frequently had conversations.
