About the JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) Bursary:
The JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) was established by JSE Limited, the oldest and largest stock exchange in Africa. The JSE, founded in 1887 during South Africa’s first gold rush, is ranked 19th among the largest stock exchange markets in the world by market capitalization. It plays a crucial role in providing efficient and secure primary and secondary capital markets for various securities, attracting both national and international investors seeking exposure to South African and African capital markets.
The JSE Empowerment Fund was created to support students in achieving their academic goals. The fund aims to empower individuals from designated groups and previously disadvantaged backgrounds by offering bursaries for undergraduate and postgraduate (Honours level) studies. These bursaries are available in specific fields of study and are awarded to students at selected universities in South Africa.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship.
- Completion of Matric (Grade 12).
- Full-time enrollment in a degree program within one of the specified fields of study.
- Entry into the 2nd, 3rd, or Postgraduate (Honours) level of study in 2024-2025.
- Enrollment at one of the following South African universities: University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town, University of Limpopo, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of the Free State, University of Fort Hare, Nelson Mandela University, North-West University.
- A strong academic record with a minimum overall average of 60%.
- Total household income not exceeding R600,000 per annum.
- Belonging to the designated group.
- Coming from a previously disadvantaged background.
