About Letsatsi Borutho Trust:

Letsatsi Borutho Trust is a community trust that owns shares in the Droogfontein Solar Power plant. The trust’s primary goal is to benefit the communities living within a 50-kilometer radius of the Droogfontein Solar Power plant. It operates under the guidance of a practical council of trustees and is committed to ensuring accountability to the communities of Windsorton, Barkley West, Riverton, Galeshewe, Ritchie, Greenpoint, Platfontein, and Kimberley. The organization’s purpose is to address historical inequalities, promote social cohesion, implement development strategies, and support the growth of disadvantaged and impoverished communities near the Droogfontein Solar Power plant.

The bursary program provided by Letsatsi Borutho Trust aims to benefit the youth residing within the geographical operational area of the trust. Since its establishment, the trust has invested more than R4.1 million in tertiary funding, with an estimated R1.8 billion expected to be provided in the upcoming bursary year.

Letsatsi Borutho Trust is offering bursaries for the upcoming academic year to students pursuing any field of study, including national diplomas, degrees, NQF level 4 technical programs, training programs, or vocational education. However, candidates must reside within a 50-kilometer radius of the Droogfontein Solar Power plant.

The bursary covers various expenses, including accommodation costs (in tertiary residence or equivalent), examination fees, learning materials (stationery and textbooks), registration fees, tuition fees, and meals. The total value of the bursary awarded to applicants will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Bursary Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria before applying:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Age must be 35 years or younger.
  • Applicant must belong to the communities of Windsorton, Barkley West, Riverton, Galeshewe, Ritchie, Greenpoint, Platfontein, or Kimberley.
  • Should have completed Matric (NSC)/ NTC.
  • Must be pursuing or intend to pursue a national diploma, degree, NQF level 4 technical program, training program, or vocational education.
  • Must be studying or intend to study at an accredited and recognized tertiary educational institution in South Africa (University, TVET College, or University of Technology).
  • Must demonstrate financial need and provide proof of insufficient funds to continue higher education.
  • Should have strong academic results.

To apply for the bursary, download and complete the Letsatsi Borutho Trust Bursary Application Form for 2024-2025. You can find the form here.

The completed application can be submitted via email to b.ndlovu@studytrust.co.za with the subject line “Letsatsi Borutho Trust Bursary Application 2024-2025” or delivered in person to the Tlhokomelo Center, 776 corners of Lecholo and Matanzima roads, Kimberley.

Once the applications are submitted, candidates will receive a confirmation email. Provisional outcomes of the application will be communicated via email by December 21. Final candidates will be required to submit their final NSC results. If the final results align with the initial prelims results, the candidate will receive the bursary.

To complete your application, you will need to submit the following documents:

  • Certified copies of ID documents.
  • Matric June prelims 2024-2025 result if currently completing Matric; if already completed Matric, submit a certified copy of the Matric certificate.
  • Proof of acceptance of provisional admission to an educational institution on the institution’s letterhead.
  • Proof of residential address.
  • Certified copies of income proof of parents/guardians (latest payslips if employed; affidavit if unemployed; grant or pension proof as applicable).
