VISION
At the Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, we aim to provide state-of-the-art programmes, allowing our students to graduate with confidence. By keeping them abreast of happenings and trends within their chosen specialisation, we aim to produce capable, professional graduates who can help meet the needs of their local, regional and national communities.
MISSION
We will achieve our vision by providing instructional programmes of the highest quality, which will remain relevant and up-to-date in a dynamic industry. Our focus is aimed towards, but not limited to previously disadvantaged communities and emerging contractors both locally and nationally.
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
The purpose of this qualification is to build the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills required for our students to become competent and professional registered practicing Quantity Surveyors and Construction Managers.
This empowers our students to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values they have acquired through the course and make a true impact on the built environment industry in South Africa. This qualification is also structured to add personal enrichment as well as status and recognition to our graduating students.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Prospective students must have a National Senior Certificate with the following rating codes:
English Home Language (4) or English First Additional Language (4), Mathematics (4) Physical Science (4) and any other 2-20 credit subjects. Adequate achievement rating code 3: 40%-49% in the relevant SUBJECT in the manufacturing, Engineering and Technology learning field will be an advantage.
LIST OF SUBJECT EQUIVALENCES
Candidates must have passed the following courses with a minimum of 50% in each course on N6 level:

New course subjects will be credited for subjects in the old course as follows:
- Construction Administration and Organisation T1 and T 2
- Construction Technology T1 and T2
- Construction Science T1 + Construction Mathematics T1
- Communication T1
- Quantity Surveying T2 + Price Analysis and Estimating T2

WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is undertaken in the second year over a six month/120 day period. It can be done in a Professional Quantity Surveyorâs office (PQS) or for a building construction company under the supervision of a quantity surveyor. WIL must be completed before a student can qualify to graduate.
