ABOUT THE COMPANY – ITHEMBA LABS

iThemba Laboratory for Accelerator-Based Sciences (iThemba LABS) is a National Research Facility managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF). It is the largest facility for particle and nuclear research on the African continent and one of the few facilities worldwide that produces radionuclides for commercial, research, and medical applications.

Located in Gauteng and the Western Cape, iThemba LABS conducts basic and applied research using particle beams, provides particle radiotherapy for cancer treatment, and supplies accelerator-produced radionuclides for medical and industrial purposes.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

iThemba LABS is offering bursaries in the following fields of study:

  • Electrical Engineering (BEng/ BTech/ National Diploma)
  • Electronic Engineering (BEng)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BEng/ BTech/ National Diploma)
  • Mechatronics (BEng)
  • Computer Science (BSc)

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

The bursary covers full tuition fees only.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further assessment. If you do not receive any feedback, please consider your application unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying in one of the specified fields of study
  • Currently in the second year of study
  • Achieved a minimum average of 60% for the first year of study
  • Studying at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Strong academic record

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

  1. Download and complete the NRF iThemba LABS Bursary Application Form (available in PDF format).
  2. Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your completed application form (failure to include these documents will result in your application being disregarded):
  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Latest academic record/transcript on tertiary institution letterhead (certified copy)

Applications must be submitted electronically via email to bursaries@tlabs.ac.za, addressed to Ms. A Groenewald. Ensure that the subject line of the email reads “NRF iThemba LABS Bursary Application – Your Full Name.”

CLOSING DATE

The closing date for applications is 31 December. Make sure to submit your application before this date to be considered.
