Welcome to the School for Teacher Education and Training

The School for Teacher Education and Training (STET) is located within the Faculty of Education & Training at the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University. This is the home of high quality initial teacher education programmes, in-service training of teachers and a wide selection of subject-specific courses. Currently the STET offers quality pre-service programmes: the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in both Senior Phase & Further Education and Training and specialization in Foundation Phase teaching. We also offer teacher development programmes in a wide range of subjects as well as short learning accredited courses through the Centre for Teacher Development in the Faculty.

As a student in the STET, you are welcome into a family of highly qualified and experienced academics who form part of the South African scholarly community of pedagogic practice. You will enjoy access to high level fora facilitated by academics in your field through symposia, seminars, as well as colloquia. As a teacher-in-training, STET creates for you a vibrant environment for self-actualization and personal development through offerings that include Postgraduate Certificate in Education (or PGCE), Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) as well as National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE).

As Director of STET, it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you as a student into our school. An interrogative and intelligent space exists for you to participate in all STET’s community engagement projects as well as other university services offered to communities and schools within the North-West Province.
