About North-West University (NWU)
The North-West University (NWU) was established on January 1, 2004, through the merger of the University of North-West, Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, and the Sebokeng Campus of Vista University. The university aims to be a respected institution across Africa, known for its engaged scholarship, social consciousness, and compassionate ethos. NWU Honours Bursary 2025-2026
The NWU Honours Bursary provides financial support to exceptional postgraduate students who face financial difficulties in pursuing their higher education. The bursary is available for students enrolled in full-time prescribed Honours degree programs. It offers an annual amount of R23,000 for both scarce and non-scarce skills courses.
Eligible students can apply for an additional top-up bursary of up to R167,900 if they have already received a bursary from institutions such as the National Research Foundation (NRF), SETA, or others. The bursary must be repaid if the student fails to complete the course within the stipulated time or terminates their studies.
Eligibility Criteria
The NWU Honours Bursary is open to the following students:
- NWU students currently enrolled and accepted for Honours studies in 2025-2026.
- Students from other universities accepted for Honours studies at NWU in 2025-2026.
- Working students who have a job and receive a salary.
- Students who receive bursaries from organizations like NRF, SETA, and external institutions.
How to Apply
- NWU students are automatically considered for the bursary; no separate application is required.
- Students from other universities need to fill out the online application form.
- Ensure all fields in the application form are completed accurately.
- Read the conditions for qualification before starting the application process.
- Attach a single PDF document containing the academic report and/or progress report.
Closing Date
The application deadline for the NWU Honours Bursary for 2025-2026 is March 31. Late applications may be accepted with written approval from the faculty.
