About Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG)
The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG) is a boarding school founded by Oprah Winfrey, a well-known American media mogul, actress, and philanthropist. Established in 2007, the school is located on the campus of Henley-on-Klip, South Africa, and aims to provide high-quality education and leadership training to academically talented girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. OWLAG offers an innovative approach to education, focusing on academic excellence, state-of-the-art facilities, community service, and leadership development.
The school follows the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) for Grades 8 to 10 and the Independent Examination Board (IEB) curriculum for Grade 12. OWLAG also offers various extracurricular activities and mentoring opportunities to enhance life skills and personal development.
OWLAG Scholarship 2025-2026
The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG) is inviting students to apply for scholarships for the 2025-2026-2024 academic year. These scholarships are administered by AFRIZAN PEOPLE INTELLIGENCE, an agency appointed by OWLAG for learner recruitment services.
AFRIZAN, a prominent equity staffing and recruitment services provider, brings over 30 years of experience to deliver consistent results in recruitment services.
Successful scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to attend OWLAG in Gauteng. The scholarship program’s goal is to provide funding for education to enable successful students to become future community leaders.
OWLAG’s scholarship program does not discriminate based on nationality, color, race, or ethnic origin. All students are eligible to apply and participate in the scholarship programs regardless of their background.
Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship
To be eligible for the OWLAG Scholarship 2024, students must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship.
- Achieved 70% and above in both Mathematics and English in the final 2022 report.
- Currently in Grade 7 in 2025-2026 and entering Grade 8 in 2024, OR in Grade 8 in 2025-2026 and entering Grade 9 in 2024.
- Combined household income not exceeding R10,000 per month (before deductions).
- Application forms must be completed and emailed to admissions@afrizan.co.za.
How to Apply for the Scholarship
Interested students should request the application form for the OWLAG Scholarship 2025-2026-2024 intake by emailing admissions@afrizan.co.za. The completed application forms and required documents must be submitted via email to admissions@afrizan.co.za by the closing date, Friday, March 31. Applicants should include “OWLAG Scholarship 2024” in the email subject line.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents along with the application form:
- Certified copy of the Unabridged Birth Certificate
- SASSA Grant confirmation letter (if applicable)
- ID photo
- 2022 Term 4/Final report
- Certified ID documents of parents/legal guardians
- Proof of residence (Municipal Account or Account Statement)
- Death Certificates (if applicable)
- Divorce decree with maintenance order (if applicable)
- Proof of adoption/change of guardianship (if applicable)
- Parents/Guardians Proof of Income
Closing Date of the Scholarship
The closing date for OWLAG Scholarship Applications is March 31. Note that the application form mentions a provisional closing date of April 12, for additional applications if OWLAG does not reach its assessment quota.
If no response is received from the academy by March 30, the application should be considered rejected.
