Sorghum Trust Scholarship

ABOUT THE SORGHUM TRUST

The Sorghum Trust is an organization that provides financial support to conduct research, collect and disseminate market information, and fund the South African Sorghum Industry. The trust was established after the termination of the Sorghum Board in 1997, with all funding being transferred to the Sorghum Trust. Its main objective is to ensure optimal utilization of the trust’s income for the benefit of the sorghum industry in South Africa.

ABOUT THE SORGHUM TRUST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Sorghum Trust offers scholarships for postgraduate studies at the Masters and Doctoral levels in fields relevant to the sorghum industry in South Africa. The fields covered by the scholarships include, but are not limited to:

MORE ABOUT THE SORGHUM TRUST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE

The Sorghum Trust Scholarship will be awarded to two candidates, with each scholarship valued at R30,000. The funds will be paid out in installments based on the submitted and approved progress reports by the scholarship recipients and their supervisors. The first installment will be paid in January.

MORE ABOUT THE SORGHUM TRUST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME – SERVICE CONTRACT & SELECTION

After graduating, scholarship recipients are required to work within the sorghum industry in South Africa for a duration equal to the length of the scholarship received. Shortlisted candidates will undergo telephonic interviews, and successful applicants will be notified within eight weeks of the application closing date.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SORGHUM TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

To be eligible for the Sorghum Trust Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed Matric
  • Be studying or intending to study full-time towards a relevant Masters or Doctoral qualification in the South African sorghum industry
  • Be studying or enrolled at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution
  • Not be receiving any other funding or bursary awards unless approved by the Trust
  • Intend to conduct a dissertation/thesis on a topic approved by the Trust
  • Be willing to work in the South African agricultural industry after completing studies
  • Have read and agreed to all Sorghum Trust Scholarship conditions, policies, and procedures
  • Agree to the terms of the Legal Undertaking on the application form

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SORGHUM TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

Applications must be submitted online using the Sorghum Trust Scholarship Application. Along with the online application, applicants must submit clear copies of supporting documents, including ID documents or passports, a curriculum vitae, proof of tertiary registration and fee statement, full tertiary academic records, details of proposed research, and a motivational letter.
