ABOUT THE COMPANY – SAIEE
The South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) is a non-profit professional association founded in 1909. It represents electronic and electrical engineers, technologists, and technicians in Southern Africa. SAIEE consists of four sections covering different aspects of electrical engineering, including Electronics and Software, Power, Rotating Machines, and Historical.
With over a century of history, SAIEE has approximately 6,000 members who engage professionally in various engineering activities, such as manufacturing, electronics, academic research, mining, telecommunications, power infrastructural services, and measurement and control. The organization administers university bursaries and scholarships within the electrical and electronic engineering sector in South Africa, as well as marketing and outreach activities to promote engineering and encourage students to pursue careers in the field.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
SAIEE offers bursaries to students pursuing undergraduate diplomas or degrees in the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Computer Engineering
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION
The SAIEE bursary covers tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation or living expenses. Bursaries are awarded annually, and students must reapply for funding each year. Continued funding is subject to the availability of funds and academic performance. Bursary recipients are not obligated to work back the funding through a service contract but are expected to act as ambassadors for SAIEE.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview at the SAIEE offices in Johannesburg or via video conference.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the SAIEE bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:
- South African citizen or South African permanent resident
- Completed Matric or currently in Matric
- Accepted to study in one of the specified fields of study
- Accepted to study at a South African university or university of technology
- Minimum result of 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science and 65% for English (if Matric has been completed)
- Minimum result of 60% for all completed modules (if currently studying)
- Preference will be given to female students with good academic results and proven financial need
- If already receiving another bursary, the combined total bursary amount must not exceed R150,000 per year
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY
To apply for the SAIEE bursary, follow these steps:
- Download and complete the SAIEE Bursary Application Form in PDF format.
- Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your completed application form:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric latest results (certified copy) if currently in Matric
- Matric certificate (certified copy) (to be submitted by 28 February)
- Proof of acceptance to study at a university or university of technology in 2024-2025
- University academic record (certified copy) if currently studying (to be submitted by 28 February)
- Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/affidavit if unemployed)
- Declaration of any other bursary funding received

CLOSING DATE
The closing date for SAIEE Bursary applications is 30 October. Please ensure that you submit your application before this date to be considered.
