About South African Nursery Association (SANA)
The South African Nursery Association (SANA) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1947. Its primary purpose is to provide a networking platform for the Green Industry in South Africa and to address the concerns of this sector. SANA represents various individual related associations, including the Allied, Bulb & Seed Trade Association (ABSTA), Bedding Plant Growers Association (BPGA), Garden Centre Association (GCA), and the Growers Association.
ABSTA comprises suppliers of planting materials such as pots, fertilizers, pesticides, and seeds. BPGA represents professional bedding plant growers and has launched the “Flowering Favourites” trademark. GCA represents retailers and sellers of plants and related products. The Growers Association coordinates growing operations to contribute to the growth of the Green Industry.
South African Nursery Association (SANA) Bursaries 2024-2025
The South African Nursery Association (SANA) offers bursaries to students who are interested in pursuing a career in horticulture and landscaping-related fields. These bursaries are awarded to students who have successfully completed all modules of their first academic year of study. The bursaries are also available for PhD, Masters, and BTech students, subject to review on a case-by-case basis.
The bursary covers study fees only and is paid directly to the institution’s bank account. It does not cover registration fees, practical training, accommodation, travel, allowances, or prescribed books. To be eligible for the bursary, students must be South African citizens, enrolled in a horticulture and landscaping qualification, and have achieved a minimum average of 60% per subject.
Students need to be members of SANA or apply for SANA Student Membership, which is free of charge and offers benefits such as communication through newsletters, access to SANA TRADE FAIRS, and more.
Requirements and Eligibility for the SANA Bursary
- South African citizen
- Completion of all modules of the first academic year of study
- Studying towards a Horticulture and Landscaping qualification
- Minimum average of 60% per subject
- Enrolled in BSc, BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD Agric degrees, National Diploma, or Higher Diploma in Horticultural Science, Horticulture, or Landscaping
- Must be a member of SANA or apply for SANA Student Membership

- Download and complete the bursary application form.
- Submit the following documents with the application:
- Certified copy of ID
- Photograph of yourself
- Academic record
- Institution’s banking details
- Proof of tertiary registration for 2024-2025
- Completed SANA Student Membership Application Form (if not a member)
- Motivational letter
- Email or fax the application and documents.
Closing Date of the Bursary
The closing date for SANA Bursary Applications is March 31.
