About Vulamathuba Empumelelo:

Vulamathuba Empumelelo is a program under Communicare, established to contribute to the community and social development of Communicare tenants and individuals from nearby neighborhoods. The program focuses on skills enhancement through training and development for both Communicare residents and non-residents, creating opportunities for overall economic growth.

Vulamathuba Empumelelo, in partnership with valued collaborators, positively impacts the lives of Communicare tenants and non-tenants, guiding them toward economic mobility and self-reliance. The program promotes community cohesion through tenant engagement and provides support to elderly and ailing tenants, ensuring their access to necessary support services.

Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund 2025-2026:

The Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund offers support to students who are either Communicare tenants or residents from nearby neighborhoods. It is designed for students with a proven disadvantaged background and high academic potential. This bursary aims to assist students pursuing careers in fields classified as rare or critical skills.

The bursary is available to Grade 12 students, those who have completed Grade 12, or undergraduates studying at recognized South African tertiary institutions.

The bursary covers the following expenses:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition or course fees
  • Costs related to textbooks and study materials
  • Examination fees

Expenses not covered by the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund include previous study loan repayments, previous study tuition fees, electronic devices, and stationery.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for this bursary, applicants must meet the following non-negotiable criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen, Permanent Resident, or have a Work Visa.
  • Must have completed or be in the process of completing Grade 12/Matric.
  • If Grade 12 is completed, the applicant must be studying at the undergraduate level.
  • The chosen institution for study must be a recognized/authorized South African tertiary institution.
  • Age must be between 19 to 50 years.
  • Must be pursuing academic studies or an artisan qualification.
  • Gross household income should not exceed R350,000 per annum.
  • Must be a Communicare tenant or a non-tenant resident within Cape Town.

  • Certified copy of your ID/passport.
  • Certified copies of ID/passport/birth certificates for all family members.
  • Matric/Grade 12 certificate (certified copy).
  • Any document showing your last academic results (certified copy).
  • Permanent Residency permit or Work Visa document (certified copy) if not a South African citizen.
  • Death certificate (if applicable).
  • Proof of residence (certified copy).
  • Affidavit (certified copy) if not financially supported by parent(s) or guardian(s).
  • Certified copy of any court order related to Administration, Court, Death, or Maintenance.
  • Proof of income for all working family members for the last 3 months.
  • Bank statements for all family members for the last 3 months.
  • Proof of application or registration at a tertiary institution if admission is not yet completed (certified copy).
  • Admission documents from the institution (certified copy).
  • A 250-word motivational essay related to your application.
  • Marriage certificate (certified copy) if married.
  • Latest payslips (certified copy) if employed.
  • Affidavit (certified copy) if financially supported by someone other than a parent or legal guardian.

Note: All submitted documents must be certified within the last 6 months.

Closing Date:

The closing date for applications for the Vulamathuba Empumelelo Bursary Fund 2025-2026 is November 30. Ensure your application is submitted before this deadline, as late applications will not be accepted.
