TJ Miller: Why Celebrities Resist Bitcoin — And How the ‘50-Hour Rule’ Could Change Everything
Comedian TJ Miller says true Bitcoin understanding demands real study time — and explains why Hollywood just isn’t built for it.
Understanding Bitcoin Isn’t Instant: TJ Miller Breaks It Down
Actor and comedian TJ Miller believes it takes about 50 hours of dedicated study to truly grasp Bitcoin — but most people, especially celebrities, simply aren’t willing to put in the time.
“It is really hard to get people to study after they graduate, from any level,” Miller told journalist Natalie Brunell during the April 23 episode of the Coin Stories podcast. According to him, when people hear they need to invest 50 hours to understand Bitcoin, “they are like, ah, I don’t want to.”
Miller noted that Hollywood culture heavily discourages deep, independent thinking:
“Hollywood rewards people that do not think differently,” he said.
The Celebrity Problem with Bitcoin
At a Bitcoin lunch hosted by entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano, TJ Miller introduced himself as “the only celebrity Bitcoiner” he knows — and he wasn’t joking.
While stars like Iggy Azalea, Caitlyn Jenner, and Hailey Welch (“Hawk Tuah”) have jumped into crypto through memecoins, Miller pointed out that few truly embrace Bitcoin at a foundational level. Instead of fast fame with coins, Miller is focused on genuine education.
He recalls urging friends to invest even when Bitcoin was between $8,000 and $12,000, telling them, “Just put $1,000 into Bitcoin.”
A Future Hollywood Movie on Bitcoin?
Miller believes it’s inevitable that Bitcoin’s rise will be turned into a Hollywood story.
But, he adds, it will be challenging because Bitcoin’s growth story “didn’t happen all at once.”
“It didn’t happen in three years, and it hasn’t happened in ten years, so it will be interesting to see how they can connect the dots,” Miller said.
His vision? To use his platform to build cultural awareness about Bitcoin, helping newcomers feel trust and curiosity rather than confusion.
“You can tell that I’m passionate about it,” Miller said in a recent sit-down with Cointelegraph’s Gareth Jenkinson.
“I want to be a face that people can trust in the Bitcoin community.”
Final Thoughts
While Bitcoin continues gaining ground, the cultural barriers inside Hollywood and celebrity circles remain real. If the “50-hour rule” is ever overcome, we may see a whole new class of public figures embracing Bitcoin not just for hype, but for genuine belief.
