ADMISSION DETAILS

1. For Senior Certificate Holders (Before 2008):

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must possess a Senior Certificate or a comparable certification.
  • Requires C grades in Standard or D grades in Higher Grade for English and Mathematics. Additionally, D grades in Standard or E grades in Higher Grade for Physical Science are essential.

Selection Parameters:

  • A minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 20 is required.

Preferred Subjects: Not specified.

2. For National Senior Certificate Holders (From 2008 Onwards):

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Possession of a National Senior Certificate with a higher certificate endorsement or a similar qualification is a must.
  • A minimum achievement level of 4 is essential for English (either home or first additional language) and Mathematics or Technical Mathematics. Additionally, a minimum level of 3 for Physical Sciences or Technical Sciences is necessary.
  • Candidates not meeting the Mathematics or Physical Sciences requirements can pursue these subjects at a TVET College. On achieving at least a 50% performance level, they can reapply for university admission.

Selection Parameters:

  • A minimum Admission Point Score (APS) of 20 is essential.

Preferred Subjects: Emphasis is on Civil Technology and Engineering Graphics and Design.

3. For Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College Graduates:

Eligibility Requirements for National Certificate (Vocational) NQF Level 4 Holders:

  • The certificate should be issued by the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi).
  • An APS of 4 (or at least 50%) is necessary for English and Mathematics, and an APS of 3 (or at least 40%) is required for Physical Sciences.
