UFS is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the UFS Honors Bursaries 2024-2025. This opportunity is extended to full-time honors students for the upcoming academic year.
Successful applicants will receive a partial tuition fee coverage as a one-time award. Qualifying candidates will also participate in mandatory CGS Research Capacity Development workshops, further enhancing their academic journey.
Navigating Eligibility: Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the UFS Honors Bursaries 2024-2025, candidates must fulfill the following entry requirements:
- Open to South African residents and international students.
- Limited to full-time honors students.
- Minimum average score of 65% in undergraduate studies.
- Possession of a Matric certificate.
- Absence of employment source.
- Intention to study as a full-time honors student at UFS.
- Demonstrated excellent academic record.
- No concurrent funding, such as NRF.
- No tuition fee remission or UFS staff benefits.
- Absence of other honors or BTech degrees.
- Not currently pursuing an undergraduate degree.
- Not in the second year of honors.
- No previous scholarship funding or awards from UFS or government programs.

Ensuring Comprehensive Application: Required Documents
Ensure your application is complete and comprehensive by submitting the following documents, depending on your status as a UFS or non-UFS undergraduate applicant:
For Non-UFS Undergraduate Applicants:
- Academic records via email to postgradfunding@ufs.ac.za with “Application for UFS Honors Funding” and “UFS student” in the subject line.
- Academic record should include final marks in percentages, not symbols (request from your previous institution if needed).
For UFS Undergraduate Applicants:
- No need to submit academic records; the Centre for Graduate Support will access them.
Guiding Your Progress: Important Notes
Navigate the application process with the following vital points in mind:
- UFS does not grant bursaries for outstanding debt.
- This is a one-time award.
- Eligibility does not guarantee selection.
- Bursaries are awarded based on academic merit.
- Not applicable to undergraduate students or diploma students (e.g., PGCE or accounting diploma).
- Academic records must feature undergraduate qualifications.
- If applying without an undergraduate degree, provide percentage scores on your records.
- Academic records should be submitted in PDF format.
- Attendance at CGS workshops is mandatory for qualified candidates.
