The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) was formed in 2004 through the merger of the University of Natal and Durban-Westville University. The institution has five main campuses: Edgewood, Medical School, Howard College, Westville, and Pietermaritzburg. UKZN Archbishop Denis E. Hurley Scholarship 2024-2025
The University of KwaZulu-Natal is offering the Archbishop Denis E. Hurley Educational Award as a scholarship opportunity. This award is available to Honours degree holders at UKZN (in any field) who intend to pursue graduate studies.
The scholarship is named in honor of Archbishop Denis E. Hurley, a dedicated individual who advocated for ethical vision, cooperative community development, and community cooperation.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the scholarship (failure to meet these requirements will result in disqualification):
- Enrolled in an Honours degree program at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
- Have a goal to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree.
- Previously disadvantaged individuals are encouraged to apply.
- Possess a strong academic record.
- Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities.
- Exhibit an ethical vision of society.
- Engage in community volunteering.
- Willingness to pursue a career in university or community-academic service.

Supporting documentation (all required documents must be submitted, as incomplete applications will be disqualified):
- Detailed CV (maximum 5 pages)
- Most recent degree certificate
- Transcript of academic record
- Referee report outlining your leadership and community involvement (maximum 3 pages)
- Dissertation proposal outline or research topic description
- Motivational letter (1 page) explaining why you deserve the scholarship
