ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – UJ AND W&RSETA
The Department of Marketing Management at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is part of the Universities College of Business and Economics. It offers a range of undergraduate degrees, diplomas, postgraduate degrees, and short courses in the field of Marketing and Retail.
The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) is a public organization that promotes skill development in the Wholesale and Retail sector through grants, bursaries, training, and learnerships. W&RSETA is one of the sponsors for the UJ Marketing department, along with companies such as Clover, PPS, Juta, Primedia, and Van Schaik.
ABOUT THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The University of Johannesburg, in partnership with W&RSETA, is offering bursary funding for Master’s and PhD studies at UJ for the 2023 academic year. The bursaries are preferably focused on research areas related to Retail Business Management, Retail Marketing, Wholesale and Retail, or Wholesale Business Development.
The bursary will cover registration fees, tuition fees, as well as expenses for data collection and language editing. The bursary will be awarded for two years for Master’s degree studies and four years for PhD degree studies. Funding for subsequent years will depend on satisfactory academic progress.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY
The eligibility requirements for the UJ W&RSETA Bursary vary depending on the level of study:
Master’s degree applicants:
- South African citizenship or permanent residency
- Registration to study at UJ for the 2023 academic year
- Approved Master’s or PhD proposal focusing on the preference areas mentioned
- Not receiving any other bursary funding
- Completion of a BCom (Honours) degree in Marketing or Retail or a related NQF 8 level qualification
- Minimum result of 60% for Research Methodology at NQF 8 level and a minimum overall average of 60% for the degree
- Registration within the allowed period specified by the College of Business & Economics for a Master’s degree
- Passion for Retail
PhD degree applicants:
- South African citizenship or permanent residency
- Registration to study at UJ for the 2023 academic year
- Approved Master’s or PhD proposal focusing on the preference areas mentioned
- Not receiving any other bursary funding
- Completion of a Master’s degree in Marketing Management or a related NQF 9 level qualification
- Minimum result of 60% for Research Methodology at NQF 8 level and a minimum overall average of 65% for the degree
- Registration within the allowed period specified by the College of Business & Economics for a PhD degree
- Passion for Retail
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY
New Enrolments:
- Apply online via the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Marketing Management website: W&RSETA UJ Bursary Application .
- Follow the full application procedure and submit the required documents as instructed.
Current Master’s and PhD students:
- Download and complete the W&RSETA UJ Bursary Application Form .
- Submit the completed application form and required supporting documents via email.
The supporting documents include an ID document or passport, full official academic records, curriculum vitae, biographical sketch, motivational letter, letter of reference regarding academic performance, and a letter from the UJ supervisor.
CLOSING DATE FOR THE UJ W&RSETA BURSARY
The closing date for current Master’s and PhD students is 19 August , and for new enrolments, it is 31 October . It is important to submit the application before the closing date to ensure consideration.
