At the University of the Free State (UFS), additional criteria include:

  • An Admission Point (AP) score of 30.
  • A minimum of 50% in the UFS medium of instruction (English or Afrikaans, subject to specific program requirements).
  • Certain university modules necessitate a specific level of achievement in related high school subjects. For instance, a 70% in Mathematics during your final school year is required if you aim to major in BSc with Physics and Engineering subjects.
  • Competitive programs such as BSc in Actuarial Science require an overall AP of 34.

It’s crucial to thoroughly review the admission requirements for your intended program of study.

Calculating Your UFS AP Score:

  • Secure a level 4 (50%) in one additional academic subject: 1 x 4 = 4
  • Achieve a level 5 (60%) in Life Orientation for 1 point: 1 x 1 = 1
  • Total UFS AP score: 30

AP Scores Aligned with NSC Levels:

  • Level 7 (90%–100%): 8 points
  • Level 7 (80%–89%): 7 points
  • Level 6 (70%–79%): 6 points
  • Level 5 (60%–69%): 5 points
  • Level 4 (50%–59%): 4 points
  • Level 3 (40%–49%): 3 points

  • Level 1 (0%–29%): No points
