What is a ward and the 6 Types of “Primary Wards” in South Africa?

A ward is a community that has a shared responsibility for the welfare of its members. It is primarily responsible for providing healthcare, food, shelter and education to its residents.

Primary wards in South Africa are:

– Local government: The City of Cape Town, The City of Johannesburg, The City of Tshwane (formerly eThekwini),

– Health care: Provincial Government Health Services, Free State Health Department, Eastern Cape Department of Health

– Education: Gauteng Department of Education

– Social welfare: The City of Johannesburg

– Child care & protection services: Western Cape Department for Social Development

Type #1 – Gauteng City Ward

Gauteng City Ward is a type of ward in South Africa. It is the first-level division in the Gauteng Province.
