Where Is it Snowing In South Africa?

The winter months in South Africa are from June through August. The weather is primarily chilly and dry, with snowfall in the highlands. On the other hand, the Cape experiences a lot of rain due to its Mediterranean climate and the fact that it does so mainly in the winter. It is spring from September through October, and while rain is frequently experienced, the weather may still be nice.

Winter: What is it?

The coldest season of the year, winter, lies between autumn and spring. Its name is derived from a historical Germanic expression “time of water” and relates to the iciness of rain and snow in middle and high latitudes. After fall and before spring, it occurs. Seasons are caused by the tilt of the Earth’s axis; iciness occurs when a hemisphere is pointed away from the Sun.

How Does Winter Come About?

In the Southern Hemisphere, it is summer while it is iciness in the Northern Hemisphere, and vice versa. Snowfall and below-freezing temperatures are common during the winter in many areas. The second of winter solstice is when the Sun is at its lowest point below the horizon when measured from the North or South Pole, or when its elevation with regard to the pole is at its greatest negative value. The season proceeds following the solstice, with day length rising and night length decreasing. The day on which this occurs has the shortest day and the longest night.
