Winter in South Africa usually starts in June and ends in August, but what’s the middle of winter? What are the best months to travel to South Africa? If you’re looking to go on holiday in South Africa between June and August, this guide will help you plan your trip around the weather conditions during those months.

What Does Winter Mean in South Africa?

Winter is a time for cozy sweaters, hot chocolate by the fire and snow days. It might not be as cold as it is in other parts of the world, but there are some things you need to know about winter in South Africa.

Winter officially begins on June 21st each year and ends on August 18th when summer officially begins; however, this doesn’t mean that it will be warm or even cool during these months – think more rain than anything else!

What Happens During the Winter Season in South Africa?

Southern Hemisphere winters are opposite to those in North America. Winter is summer for countries such as Australia and New Zealand, but it is Fall for Canada and the United States. Fall lasts from September to December, followed by winter from January to March (June-August). Spring is then April-August (March-May).

Days Are Shorter During Winter

The Northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun during the summer months, so days are longer. The opposite is true for the Southern hemisphere where days are shorter during winter. For example, if you’re in South Africa during summer (June to August), you’ll have a 22-hour day when it’s noon at 12:00 pm PST (Pacific Standard Time). This means it will only be 10:00 am on your clock when it’s noon there!
