In the Northern part of South Africa’s Eastern Cape province, Burgersdorp is reputed to be the oldest town there. In the southernmost point of an inverted triangle formed by Aliwal North and Venterstad, Burgersdorp is located. First inhabitants of this region were the San (often referred to as “Bushmen”), who left behind creative reminders of their existence and visions in numerous caves all across the region.

Numerous people refer to Burgersdorp as the “cultural center of the North Eastern Cape” because of its rich historical and cultural heritage. The town is a well-liked stopover location because of the fresh air, hospitable locals, and several tourist attractions. This leaves a total population of 15,990 people for the urban area. The percentages of this population who identified as Black African (78.1%), Colored (11.98%), and White (9.4%) were as follows. Xhosa was the primary language spoken at home by 69.2% of people, followed by Afrikaans (20.1%), Sotho (3.3%), English (1.4%), and other languages (6.0%) by 6.0%.
