Ermelo has a population of over 36,500 people. It is the economic, educational and commercial hub for the entire Gert Sibande District Municipality.
This region is a mix of agriculture and mining. It’s located 210 km east of Johannesburg.
Out of the many agricultural products grown around Habo’s district, maize, cattle, potatoes, beans, wool, pigs and nuts are the chief soil types. Sorghum and sunflower seeds are used in arid regions. Sub-tropical fruits like mangoes and oranges can be found in response to rainy conditions.
The town of Nooitgedacht is in the eastern part of South Africa and is home to the Nooitgedacht Agriculture Development and Research Center or as we know it, NARDC for short.
Mining is important to the district with anthracite, coal and torbanite mined.
