The government purchased a portion of the Paardekraal estate and christened the new settlement Paul Kruger after Transvaal President Paul Kruger. Krugersdorp no longer has an independent municipal authority, having been absorbed by Mogale City Local Municipality along with adjacent communities. It is presently the seat of Mogale City administration.
