Paarl is a small city located northeast of Cape Town, South Africa. It was established in 1682 as a Dutch East India Company settlement and became a municipality in 1860. The town’s largest language group is Afrikaans-speaking people at 75%. It is also situated about 60 kilometres northeast of Cape Town central. Other languages spoken in the town are Xhosa (12%), English (11%) and Sotho (2%).
